Republicans STEAL Democratic Flags!
(then accuse Dems of being un-patriotic)
September 6th, 2008
Republicans in right-wing Colorado Springs claim that Democrats left behind unused flags at Mile High Stadium in Denver after Obama’s speech and that they, the Republicans, saved the flags. The story surprised me, because I personally searched the stadium for leftover flags - I wanted one as a souvenir - and it took me some time to find one. The very few flags that were left behind were not in great condition. I did find one small flag (which I brought home) but unfortunately no big flags. I kept looking until the stadium staff kindly asked me (and others) to leave so they could clean up.
I assumed the Republicans were just making up the flag story in a typical, mindless challenge to Democratic Patriotism (see footnote below). But now the truth has just been reported at the Denver Post and on CBS: some McCain operative STOLE the Democratic-Party-owned flags that the Obama campaign was planning to be distribute at future Obama rallies. If I were Obama, I would press charges to get that Republican operative in jail for theft! More on the silly flag story here.
Footnote: Republicans believe protecting a small American flag is more important than protecting the Constitution. That’s why they would support a constitutional amendment to ban flag-burning but see no problem with American torture, secret prisons, warrantless wiretapping, jailing American citizens without charges or trials, hiding prisoners from the Red Cross, and other tactics reminiscent of the former East German police state. For a Republican, patriotism is unthinking, unquestioning love for any Republican American President and believing everything he says without the slightest bit of skepticism. They really believe skepticism of your Government (when run by their party) is “liberal,” “elitist,” “cynical”, “intellectual,” and wrong in a democracy. And the media should apologize.

If CNN says it, it must be true!

Must be a cheap Republican political ploy….
just like forcing Obama to sit in that church pew for 20 years while his pastor denigrated the country.
Or Obama’s relationship with admitted terrorist William Ayers.
Or Obama’s dealings with Tony Rezco.
Or Obama’s flip flops.

The Democrats are telling us that bad guys have stolen American flags carefully cared for at Invesco Field in Denver and given them to Republicans. I’m so glad that the Democrats are focusing on this serious problem that is happening all over America. The Democrats have pointed out that Boy Scouts and Veterans have stolen American flags that were carefully stored in trash bags and dumpsters. The same thing happens at my home nearly every week. Valuables that I store in trash bags and the dumpster get stolen by some guys who come by in a truck. This happens in neighborhoods all over America. I’m so glad that Democrats know how to care for valuable things. I’m sure they will treat my serious concerns with the same careful respect once they get into the White House.

Ah yes…so typical of Republicans. Whenever they’re caught doing something wrong, they are very quick to admit nothing and attack elsewhere.
So transparent.
In fact, whenever Republicans so quickly change the subject, it is an admission they know they’ve done wrong. Right, Brute?
Johne, it wasn’t Democrats but Republicans that made such a huge issue over such a stupid thing. It is the McCain campaign that wants America to focus on flags rather than the serious problems facing America.
McCain has said he won’t challenge the other party’s patriotism, and then he did just that. He could have nipped it in the bud by some quick “straight talk” in Colorado Springs.
But McCain KNOWS he can’t win with his Bush/Cheney policies. That’s why he refuses to tell America what they are. Instead he goes the cowardly, despicable route of challeging his opponents’ patriotism.
Well, SHAME ON MCCAIN!
To me, it is extremely UNpatriotic to accuse your political opponents of being unpatriotic merely because they’re your political opponents.
In fact, it’s downright un-American.
So SHAME ON MCCAIN.
And I do hope they prosecute the Republican thieves and throw the book at them!

I see……. Republican operatives purchased 12,000 American flags, clandestinely infiltrated the Democrat National Convention, distributed the flags, collected them afterward and secretly inserted them in the trash cans with the garbage and placed them beside the dumpsters. Sounds perfectly plausible……
Or, Democrat Party organizers passed out 12,000 flags and instructed their audience to wave them for the television cameras. Afterward, (after the flags served their phony purpose as props in front of the cameras), the convention attendees discarded them in the trash as they do with everything that true Americans hold dear.
I challenge their patriotism. Anyone who turns their back and cheers for our nation’s enemies in a time of war, (or any other time) is a traitor.
Yes, I certainly challenge their patriotism.
September 6th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
No. The Republicans admit they didn’t purchase any of the flags. The Dems had a number of undistributed flags or flags collected after the convention and stored them at Mile High. Some Republican got into Mile High — it’s easy to do if you’re a vendor working there (I know I was there) — and illegally stole the DNC property (the flags). I agree with Mark — I hope the thieves are prosecuted. Don’t you? Or is theft not in YOUR State’s Criminal Code or Ten Commandments? (It’s in mine.)
No flags were placed in the garbage by Democrats, not a one. Democrats don’t do that. They respect the American flag. Now if Republicans put the flags in the garbage, that would be disgusting, to sully the American flag just to play a dirty political trick. But I would hope even Republican operatives would not stoop so low. I won’t believe any of my fellow Americans to be so unpatriotic as to trash flags unless you show me an article showing me the flags were placed with garbage.
But I do think you are unpatriotic and un-American for justifying thievery and dirty tricks. So I challenge your patriotism. Maybe you would prefer an un-democratic country where such things are more common.
But in my country (the USA), these kind of dirty tricks are rightfully condemned. Mark’s right: shame on McCain.

Hmmmm…..then these photographs of garbage filled bags containing Obama camgaign signs mingled with American flags must be doctored….part of the conspiracy.

Hmmm….your own link says that the flags were not found in the trash but near the trash. So if they were mixed with trash, then who did it? Invesco workers? Or Republicans?
Your link has a massive lie on it: “The crowd was instructed to wave them at every opportunity. They did as instructed and then promptly threw them away as they were leaving the stadium.” This is a lie. I was there. The flags were available if people wanted them. I had to ask around to get mine. And no one instructed me or anyone else to “wave it.” The un-American hateful person who wrote the article wants people to assume that 80,000 Democrats hate their country and would only wave flags if “instructed” to do so. That’s how you know not only that the writer is an idiot but he thinks the readers are idiots. (And, I guess, if they’re Republicans, he’s right.) And yes, I took my flag home where it waves proudly.
As for the “Republican janitor,” if he didn’t commit theft, for which he should be thrown in jail, why won’t he give his name? Who’s he hiding from? The cops?
Obviously the Democrats were saving the flags in good condition for another rally before they were stolen by the Republicans. Here’s the picture of the flags in good condition.
http://blogs.denverpost.com/opinion/?pp_album=main&pp_cat=default&pp_image=Flags.jpg
But what about the flags that were soiled or damaged? Your unpatriotic Republican suggest that the proper solution for the soiled and damaged flags is to burnthem. (http://ahwatukeemusings.blogspot.com/2008/09/mccain-camp-to-chastise-dems-for.html)
SO THE REPUBLICANS WANT TO BURN THE AMERICAN FLAG! ARE THEY IN LEAGUE WITH AL QAEDA? WHO HATES AMERICA NOW? HOW MANY FLAGS HAVE YOU BURNED? DON’T YOU KNOW THAT REPUBLICANS WANT TO BAN FLAG BURNING? ARE YOU A TERRORIST? (LOL. Can we raise the fever pitch a little higher on such a nonsensical thing?…Oh wait, I know.) LOVE AMERICA OR LEAVE IT, YOU FLAG-BURNING, POT-SMOKING, ADULTEROUS, TERRORIST-LOVING, UPPITY, THIEVING, RED, PINKO REPUBLICAN NAZI!
The Democrats just wanted to save the flags for another day. But Republicans insist that the flags be burned. Incidentally, I didn’t see any soiled flags handed out by the McCain campign. What did they do with them? Did they burn them? Got a picture of the Republican bonfire of American flags that you insist the McCain campaign must have done because your article says it’s the proper thing to do? I’d love to see that fire. Care to show us a picture? No?
Besides, we all know that Republicans don’t only burn American flags in their spare time. Really what they burn is the American Constitution, as they spy on all of us, throw Americans in jail without trial, and torture innocents. Can we both agree that’s un-American? Or, in your view, is torturing people OK but refusing to burn a flag un-American.
While you’re at it, explain to me why McCain, a man who was tortured, supports torture himself even though it is expressly prohibited by the Constitution?
Oops..sorry..policy here. Can’t discuss that. The economy, war, health care, education. Nooo… Can’t discuss that. Republicans don’t want to discuss that. That would show how out of touch they are and how they’re running America into the ground.
So back to the most important issue of the day: the proper disposal of the DNC’s flags. The DNC wanted to reuse them until they were stolen. The Republicans want to burn them. Now who’s patriotic here?

Ed,
Did you forget to take your medication again today?

Hey–Brutie boy–I didn’t see u at the firefight–what makes you a judge of patriotism–if confusion is America’s enemy–U sound like a traitor to me
The F.U. Lizards
Those friendly little lizards
with such claim to name
for their baleful scream,
only still believed by some,
and by those who heard them,
in those hot, steamy jungles
beneath Nui Ba Den,
in that God-forsaken war,
somewhere between heaven and hell,
the lizards saw it all
and squawked their two-word testimony,
what else could they possibly say?

Who wants their Social Security to be put in Bear Stearns? Brute, is that you raising your hand?
I wonder if you or anyone that is bothered with Gov’t (Big or not Friedmanian) care at all about Alaska’s oil tax per Gal of gas they hit prior pumped out of the state. that actually raises the pump price so that Alaska can cut welfare checks to its state residents of $2,000 each per year.?
Is that conservative? Republican? Free market?
Also if you want to talk of distracting issues, away from McCain voting with Bush 95% of the time and 100% in ‘08. That McCain is now running against his party, president Bush the last 8 years of republican corruption, the last 2 years of republicans breaking all time records in filabustering, and running against the mythical liberal biased press.
*bonus round;
if you really want some off issue meat. He is your Republican champion of rugged individualism and self made man.
>American tax payers have been paying for McCain for some time.
He was born on a military base at our expense, his schooling, Health care, Training and education in the military when he joined. We paid for 5 jet aircraft he crashed before he ever got to Vietnam. We paid for the jet he crashed in vietnam when he got captured. We paid for red cross to assist him as a POW, We paid on his return for health care, for re education.
We have been paying John McCain $58,000 per year since he returned from vietnam. His health care still. We paid his salary (more than our own pay) with full health care and retirement as a Congressman and as Senator as well. He supposedlyperforms his job as Senator without any restriction or disabilities. So for the 30 years in Congress he has had full health care, full senator salary, $58,000 per year on top for his service.
$58,000 per year times 30 years=$1740,000. Was he worth all those vietnamese video tapes for propaganda he made?
Let us not forget McCain’s legal fees for being one of the Keating five, and what his involvement cost Americans to bail out those S&L’s.
But we aren’t quite done yet, McCain opted for Gov’t funds during his primary election. Which we paid for. He is using some of that taxpayer funding as we speak to run. McCain will go cradle to grave his whole life if he makes President on tax payers.
But he won’t want us to have health care or Social Security and such, why does he think that way?
