Stunning Democratic Victories: the 2005 Election Results

(Archive)

In New Jersey, California, and even the normally Republican Virginia, voters decisively rejected negative politics, Republicans, and the Bush Administration.

Is this a harbinger of 2006?

Yes, let me have a harbinger with cheese and a double Harvey Wallbanger--hold the fries

Gee, where are all those talking point experts like Ed (aka Edwinee) that were saying "bye bye democrats" a year ago? I guess they disappeared in a true chicken-hawk style. Pat Buchanan may have been a prophet when he said that Bush's reelection in 2004 would be the end of conservatism. Hopefully it will be an end to the Reagan style conservatism instead of an Eisenhower style:

"Should any political party attempt to abolish Social Security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
President Dwight D. Eisenhower (R), 1952

Most excellent post, Skip. I remain convinced that the cons gained powerful offices by cheating in every way that they could, mostly involving the machines. I also believe that they did all in their means to throw yesterday's elections. I have no reason to believe they have acquired any ethics since the last election. What I am guessing is that there comes a point where they simply can't turn enough votes to change the outcome. Remember that the machines alone turned 9,000,000 vites fron JFK (Kerry) to GWB as contrasted with exit polls in those places where the machines were in use. Amazing! The cons must be getting real unpopular with great numbers.

On Oct 27 I wrote on this blog:
“The Republican Governor of California will loose every proposition put on his special election ballot.”

When your right your right. Every single proposition was defeated.

You were right, Sean! (But you misspelled "lose", so you're not perfect. :-) )

Calm down did not win any new seats! So much exuberance over what? Democratic states voting Democratic? (Virginia is an exception). It was not a land slide as it should have been.

I am pleased with California, my once long time home state. I know It was Arnold-nator's proposals and they were defeated. But I think a Calif republican representative who is to Arnold what Rove is to GW. That man is a Calif republican representative, named " Issa " ( hope I have the spelling right). He was there for the Schwartz-nator to get him elected. He was even on O'reilly and made a case to over-ride the natural citizen clause for the Swartz to run for President after Bush. Understand this Issa is too unpopular to get elected himself to Gov.
The "electric regulation" was the biggest flame.
"Redistricting", while still smoldering was actually a mere 19% difference. The repubs will be back. In the loss, they will look at what is needed to close the gap. As with the Redistricting thrust. Marketing!
Maybe Bush could of spent more time with Republican canidates campaigning of Proposals. Be more visibly friendly and praising of them. Like " Arny, your doing a heck of a job in California ", ( as Bush did for Brown).
Just hope Dems do no peak too soon or get over confident for '06. But get that damn drum beating and ball rolling!

I have to drop a line of praise in here for my new home state of Pennsylvania. I moved my family here from Florida a couple of years ago. Contrary to popular speculation among our neighbors, we are NOT in the wittness protection program! LOL

No, I moved my family here because we could afford it (the economy is trashed and we telecommute from anywhere w/ reliable net access) and because, despite these difficulties, the PEOPLE here have a clue and a care about the business of state, federal and local government. In the wake of an illegal pay grab, we successfully ousted one of two Supreme Court judges up for retention along w/ all 8 Dover school board members who tried to replace our science curriculum w/ their favorite fairy tales.
