Debate Monday

(Archive)

Guess who's mad at the Republican Party?

No...not just Mark. Also his guest Michael Lane, President of IntElephant Strategies, a consultant working to elect Republicans to political office.

Of course, Mark and Mike are probably upset at Republicans for different reasons....

Comments

Michael Lane is perturbed with the Republican party? Well as in the movie Die Hard. "Welcome to the party pal".
There is plenty to go around, Even for republican supporters blinded by their zeal.
Those that defended the President when he was wrong just encouraged him to continue his misguidance, in the name of partisanship, THANKS.
-One of the latest bothersome events was Veterans day. The President used his Veterans day speech to politically attack his opponents and Whine of how he his picked on. He used this day for "his" agenda.

-Mark, will you please tell Mr Lane to tell Rove to tell Cheney to tell Bush that Veterans day is not about Poor George's poll numbers, and it is not all about George! Just one of many observations!!!!!!

Damn, The program started off well and with promise when I heard Mark ask if there is a rift started between the Moderates and the Right Wing...then you decided to say the dirty trick was from the Republican Party...So guess everyone of them in the party is guilty? Geez...Do we have to all be the same again?

Here Here! Michael....you are right on track. I agree...it is the Combative, destructive, Mean spirited way of the ultra right wing and the oh so willing to go along with it demagogues on the left that are destroying us. Those of us in the middle are not even given a chance to get off the floor for the giddy response to rub our noses in the Muck of people in the same party that we disagree with. No one seems to want to be inclusive. It is more important to see those that are seen as the "OTHER SIDE" suffer rather than to Build together. So Sad.

Mike Lane, you mentioned that they are not traditional combatants. Why should we as Americans tolerate torture ever. Don't we want to take the higher ground? Do we want our soldiers who fall into the wrong hands to be tortured?

Posted by: Mike at November 14, 2005 7:38 PM

We are missing the point. Wrong is Wrong and torture is wrong. I agree with Senator McCain. We have to hold ourselves up to a higher standard. Would we agree with this type of treatment of US Citizens? Disclosures now might be problematic, but it should not have been done in the first place.

I understand the argument concerning the Geneva Convention and that would be invoked should our soldiers ever be held captive by another recognized force. BUT, let's say that an enemy force decided to capture a civilian associate who is supplying our forces or a journalist or other NON military U.S. Citizens? Could they then treat them less than the standards of the Geneva Convention and claim the same argument? This is why we must be most careful in how we act.

Torture just doesn't produce efficient, reliable results--and it is, oh so, messy

Tricking captives is a worthy plan--but that requires savvy on the part of the interrogators--not something the Bush people are comfortable with
