The Petraeus Report: Another 100 Years?

Audio

Yesterday, General Petraeus wouldn't budge from his position, which was really quite simply stated:

We have no idea how long we'll be fighting in Iraq.
We have no idea how much it will cost.
We have no idea whether we'll win or lose.
We have no idea how many will die.
We have no idea how to define victory.

Oh, and our enemies keep changing.

First we give money and arms
to the Sunnis (supported by Al Qaeda)
against the Shia (supported by Iran).
And lo and behold, the Sunni become more powerful and dangerous!

Then we gave money and arms
to the Shia (supported by Iran)
against the Sunni (supported by Al Qaeda).
And lo and behold, the Shia are becoming more poweful and dangerous.

Maybe we should help the Sunni (Al Qaeda in Iraq) again?

Rinse and Repeat for 100 years.

And don't forget the intra-Sunni and intra-Shia battles too, upon which we have to take sides!

Rinse and repeat for 100 years.

(Remember when dangerous Sunnis (led by Saddam) were evenly matched by dangerous Shias (led by Iran)? Sure, a million were killed in the Iraq-Iran War of 1982 and we armed both sides to some extent, but no land was conquered and no Americans died. Hard to believe those were the good ole' days, but in retrospect, they were.)

Who's Fighting Whom?

It's not just Shia, Sunni, and Kurd. It's Al Qaeda and Al Sadr. The Iraqi Government and Ours. Provincial Warlords, Iraqi Nationalists, former Baathists, foreign jihadists, and lots of folks just trying to survive.

Guest: Iraqi Raed Jarrar, Iraq consultant for the American Friends Service Committee, explains who's fighting whom among the various players in the Iraqi civil war.

As you might expect, American taxpayers are financing and arming virtually all of them.

Comments

Sen John McCain has explained many times that it is "well known and well reported that the Iranians are taking Al Qaida back into Iran, training and arming them. Thenreturning them back into Iraq to kill Americans".

I thought even the Insidescoop would have been aware of this "well known" fact.

We really need a PTSD rating on John McCain

Posted by: A vote for McCain is a vote for eternal occupation of Iraq at March 30, 2008 10:03 AM

Existing PTSD ratings may not encompass 20 or 30 years of unchecked untreated PTSD McCain suffers.

Posted by: Second the motion at March 30, 2008 2:46 PM

PTSD ratings only started in the mid-90's--if they can encompass the sufferings of hundreds of thousands of other Viet-vets--they can cover McCain (It's about him just acknowledging his PTSD and how he deals with it--if he tries to deny
he has it--he's screwed--because he's lying--everybody in combat gets it--to some degree)

According to Senator McCain, "Al Sadr called Miliki for a cease fire".

There were also reports that Miliki called on Al
Sadr in Iran, for Sadr to cease fire in Basra.

If Miliki didn't call Bush or Gen Petreaus but called to Sadr. Then why do we need to be there. Between Miliki's Gov't military and Sadr's militia. Al Qaida has no chance...

Posted by: Robt at April 2, 2008 4:14 AM

The scary thing is--that Al Sadr checked with Dick Cheney on what to do

Posted by: Hal Liburton at April 2, 2008 10:39 AM

Why did Bush want to be Commander in Chief if once aquired. He immediately becomes a low rank orders taker, and Gen Petreaus his superior.

" I will listen to the Generals on the ground", says Bush. Unless of course they disagree with me. But if the Generals mimic the president's whims then they are in charge.

Isn't the military supposed to be controlled by a civilian commander and not the other way around?

Will the media ever confront the President on who is in charge?

Posted by: Robt. at April 18, 2008 3:11 AM

Robt.--get with it--this is Imperial America where you don't need to know who's really in charge--protocol can be mixed and mashed to fit military-industro agenda--theory is for dreamers--a well-placed shot group of smart-bombs is for politicians of the machiavellian persuasion--let the Constitution be used as crab-bibs for the next State-dinner

Posted by: MMMMMMMMMMMMM, crab! at April 18, 2008 10:06 AM

Mr or Mrs MMMMMMMMMMMMMM crab,

So when we vote for President does Commander in Chief considerations and duties apply in deciding which candidate best qualifies for the job?

Perhaps we need to vote for Generals as well as Supreme Court Justices?

Yet, I thought I heard McCain campaigning if President he'd strut his commander in chief POW war style experience. That his knowledge of POW's makes him a wise choice to handle the commander in chief duties?

Or was it that he was boasting of his wife's cooker in chef's family recipe's that had been handed down in her wealthy family for generations.?

Posted by: Robt at April 18, 2008 12:59 PM

Oh, have your little election--and sleep well tonight--Imperial America will protect you in ways you better never find out...more crab?

Posted by: Crabby Appleton at April 19, 2008 9:32 AM

Election schmelection,

Bush can just have one of his Justice Dept staffers write a memo that legalizes Bush to stay for a third term.

Aren't you afraid of angry muslims that think they seen you on Youtube and now want you eraticated. Their raising money to lobby Tom Delay's pest control business to exterminate you and all of those that claim to be Democrats. Especially those Liberal ones.

Remember Al Qaeda wants Democrats to get elected and I know its true because I heard it on Rush Limppaw.

All ex-presidents are euthanized and replaced by clones--or in the case of GW Bush--he can be replaced by a Joe Palooka bounce-back balloon

And another reason I think Newt would make an almost great of a choice for McCain's V.P.. Almost as great as Cheney to Bush.

-Speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox News Friday night, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told the conservative pundit that "the left wing of the Democratic Party, frankly, kind of admires American terrorists." Gingrich then went on to say that "they don't mind at all that Farrakhan is anti-semitic. They shrug off Jeremiah Wright."

Newt is so eloquent in his fascism. Newt is the imagined imperial figment come true.

Newt who believes and has stated that Americans are willing to give up any constitutional rights to be protected projects that abusive father figure some bow in fear to.

What a guy.

He is also someone the Right wing media can trapse out to make McCain look moderate. Not on paper mind you. But in the voice of superior arrogance of controlling rule he promises.

Newt for VP????

Seeing the Pope and Dick Cheney together--gave me a scary thought--what if Dick Cheney was Pope?

Posted by: The Vatican becomes a nuclear power at April 21, 2008 9:54 AM

Talk about scary, coming soon on FOX.

The return of Gilligans Island;

Skipper-Rush Limbaugh

Gilligan (little buddy)- George Bush

Marianne-Ann Coulter

Mr. Howell-Cheney

Mrs Howell-Barbara Bush

Ginger-Scooter Libby (in drag)

The Professor-Colin Powell

It started out as a four year tour. A storm came and stranded them on this Island. For ever (it feels like).
Were stranded watching these reruns. That is Scary!
