Rev. Sun Myung Moon: Republican Messiah

Audio

Guest: John Gorenfeld, author of Bad Moon Rising: How Reverend Moon Created the Washington Times, Seduced the Religious Right, and Built an American Kingdom

Do you know how much the Bush family has taken from a self-proclaimed Messiah who says he talks to Hitler and Jesus every day, performs mass marriages of strangers, and controls a Republican media empire?

Comments

This guy -- who failed in an attempted career asa a legitimate, disciplined journalist subject to the rigors of fact-checking -- reveals himself in this book and interviews to be a bigot of the worst kind -- a religious bigot -- who also because he is gay, rails against people of faith who stand for traditional family values. Recall the civil rights battles in the South in the '60s -- where one southern cop said on national TV, "I'm a bigot and I'm proud of it." Gorenfeld is today's version of those narrow-minded and hate-filled Ameicans who would have denied freedom to people because they feared America's Jewish, Catholic, Black, White, Asian -- and political, diversity.

Barack Obama - Democratic Messiah - You wanna talk about seduction?????

Mr. Taylor, only one of us has a dear friend that has thrown millions of dollars in the direction of white-supremacist journalists, so you are gonna need a better analogy.

For years, a group of Boss Hogg-esque racists at the Washington Times dined out quite nicely on Mr. Moon's dime. For example, there was Fran Coombs, who ranted about the "niggerfication of America," and a national editor, Robert Stacy McCain, who spent his web-surfing time posting about how interracial romance was disgusting.

It eventually became too embarrassing even by the standards of the Unification Church, the only major faith whose rites include tricking members of Congress and ripping off widows in Tokyo. But it wasn't as if Moon was being kept awake nights by sponsoring race-hatred. For good measure, as reported in Le Monde, Moon threw a few million to Jean-Marie Le Pen's disgusting National Front during the 1980s.

Hilariously, Stephen Taylor isn't the first in the Unification Church community to mistake me for a lover of men, though I welcome the company. There's this notion that only a gay man would think it noteworthy for a Washington newspaper owner to be calling gay Americans "dung-eating dogs" who should perish in a "purge on God's orders."

Another cult member called me a "San Francisco party boy," and a young Second Generation woman said I was "cute, too bad he's gay." How are you going to keep them down on the farm?

P.S. Fact-checking dep't: I apologize for accidentally referring to William Reed, who called Moon an "icon for people of color," as a pastor. He is actually a crooked journalist who took Moon cash in exchange for planting stories in the African-American press about how Rev. Moon is an "icon for people of color."

Mr. Taylor's comments sound a lot like the comments made by Unificationists when Nansook Hong published her electrifying expose, In the Shadow of the Moons: My Life in the Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Family (New York: Little, Brown & Company, 1997). Then, too, they claimed that the book was ghost written, filled with errors, and so on. Most members refused to read the book, even though Hong revealed that Moon claims he has committed adultery "for Providential reasons", a claim he was forced to make in order to cover up the fact that he violated his own most fervent teachings against "free sex". Unificationists will always be in a hurry to claim they are being discriminated against and that those who write about Moon are doing so out of hatred or bigotry. They are, really, doing little more than covering their eyes and ears with their hands and then shouting, "LA, LA, LA, LA!" at the top of their lungs to drown out the information they don't want to receive. What a waste of good minds.

Taylor's comments reminds me of a talk I went to in Boston about 25 years ago. It was given by former members of the scientology and moonie cults. During the entire presentation there were many interuptions by a small group of cultists in the back. Earlier that day they went around stripping off advertisement posters for the talk. If those efforts fail it's back to the tried and true "sue them into oblivion".

I just started reading John Gorenfeld's book. I haven't gotten very far. But the whopper that I did find was a little factoid about how daddy Bush and Moon are next door neighbors in Paraguay. Moon owns about 1.5 million acres while daddy owns a tiny 150,000 acre. How appropriate for them to be hanging out in such a Nazi stronghold.

Here's an interesting scientology article that I just saw in the local free weekly:
