With no reservation do I feel strongly about "Pulpit Politics". I cherish free speech but acknowlege there are speech limits. Threats to kill someone to yelling bomb as a cry wolf sort of joke come to mind.
Pastors and clergy by preaching their political ideology to a humble and yes, vulnerable mass(congregation). Using GOD and religion as a weapon of condemnation to sway heeding their ideological words to propagandize into what profits the church and the church elder/ pastor/etc.
How a pastor Hagee convinces his flock that revelations wants his congregation to vote for McCain so that McCain can bring on war that will cause the rapture.
More unforgiving old Testament than the forgiving New Testament.
The free speech of Timothy Mcviegh against his country and countrymen. The free speech of David Koresh of the Branch Dividian. Its troubling.
As much entertained I was by the Preist at Obama's church of yore. It was political discourse at the pulpit that the Gov't sort of sponsors by giving the tax exemption. That "pulpit political sermon belongs there less than Rev Wright's comments that led him to saying the infamous, "God Damn America".
Religion and church life are not democracies.
When religion turns a profit off donations ( for the church needs and saving souls) the church invests their money for profit and higher living standards forthe business of God. This is so frequent one may not find a church that isn't profiting for the church proprietors. It is big business. And as any big business their concerns are republican conservative concerns. like lower taxes and tax havens for them, more money to lobby their concerns to Gov't, and Gov't to create needy for the church. Then Churchs replace Gov't aid and become the outsorced social services. Paid of course by the Gov't.
Why do religious figures want so much power?
Why does that power have to come in the form of a High Gov't official and why do these clergy waive their influence at both ends. To the Gov't officials of votes they turn out, and proof of Gov't officials meeting them to their flocks?
When the Chatholic church denounces abortion strong and loud. Many Catholics ran from John Kerry during his Presidential run. And they voted against every other interest in their lives for that one because of the religions statements of influence.
Has Bush made abortion illegal or simply rattled the abortion clinics chains to make enough noise to appease those religiously swayed by "Pulpit Politics"??
Voting is a personal thing. A civic responsibility I hear. A social responsibility.
And so on.
Does voting your religion or pastor's coerced religious views for that matter the responsible civic duty as a citizen. Why can't a person have his faith without constantly yelling this faith and views of faith in everyone elses face and insinuating their beliefs is what is wrong.?
What can bring decent churchs/religion back to those who seek it? Assuming they lost it of course.
Do we have the right to shout "Mothafucker" in a crowded, burning theater--and/or do we have the right to say Islamo-Fascist terrorists are in Dearborn, MI--with suitcase-dirty-bombs--posing as Kirby salesmen?

And hold dear McLizard's words of forgiveness and only after heeding McLizards wisdom recipe from a heated rock should you crucify. Just not before.
In Cheney's case--cook the recipe in a microwave--and watch the Penguin dance--we forgive and don't forget--as he does his traitorous two-step
